Part 1: Introduction and Interview
Do you like long journeys?
-
(图片来源网络,侵删)Well, it depends on the type of journey. I generally enjoy long-distance train or bus rides, especially if I'm traveling with friends or family. It's a great opportunity to chat, play games, and just relax without the stress of driving. However, I'm not a big fan of long-haul flights because I find them quite tiring and uncomfortable.
-
To be honest, I'm not particularly fond of long journeys. I find them quite exhausting, especially when I have to sit in one place for hours. It can be boring, and I often get restless. However, if the destination is exciting, like a vacation I've been looking forward to, the journey itself feels more bearable.
What do you usually do during long journeys?

Oh, I have a few go-to activities to pass the time. First, I always make sure to download a bunch of podcasts or audiobooks. Listening to a good story or an interesting discussion really helps the time fly. Second, I like to watch movies or TV series on my tablet. And finally, I often use the time to just look out the window, daydream, and plan for the trip ahead.
What was your longest journey?
My longest journey was probably a 24-hour train trip I took from Beijing to Lhasa a couple of years ago. It was an incredible experience. We were on a special train with big windows, and I spent most of the time just staring at the breathtaking scenery as we climbed higher and higher onto the Tibetan Plateau. It was long, but absolutely unforgettable.
Part 2: Long Turn (Cue Card)
Cue Card Sample
Describe a long journey that you went on. You should say:
- Where you went
- How you travelled

- And explain how you felt about the journey
(The Structure)
-
重点回答 "Explain how you felt",升华主题。 填充 (The Details)**
-
I went to a small, remote village in Yunnan called..."
-
How you travelled: 描述交通工具的特点。"We took a local bus, which was old but had a rustic charm." (我们坐了一辆当地的巴士,虽然很旧,但有质朴的魅力),或者 "We travelled by sleeper train, which was an adventure in itself."
-
What you did: 这是展示你词汇和语法的好地方,不要只说 "I listened to music",可以说 "To kill the time, I immersed myself in a captivating audiobook..."
(High-level Vocabulary & Phrases)
- an epic journey (史诗般的旅程)
- a memorable trip (一次难忘的旅行)
- a gruelling / arduous journey
- a scenic route / breathtaking views
- off the beaten path
- I was filled with a sense of anticipation.
- It was a real eye-opener.
- I felt a profound sense of peace.
- The journey was as rewarding as the destination.

I'd like to talk about a long journey I took last summer to a remote village in Sichuan province. It was a trip to visit my grandparents who live there.
To get there, we had to take a combination of transport. First, we took a high-speed train to a smaller city, which was fast and comfortable. The real adventure began after that. From the city, we had to hop on a local bus for the final leg of the journey. The bus was old, winding through narrow, mountain roads, and it took nearly eight hours. It was definitely not the most comfortable ride, but the scenery was absolutely stunning with lush green mountains and crystal-clear rivers.
During that long bus ride, I didn't just sit there doing nothing. I spent most of the time with my nose pressed against the window, taking in the breathtaking landscapes. I also brought a novel and a portable charger, so I managed to read a good chunk of the book. The most interesting part, though, was chatting with the locals on the bus. They were so friendly and told me fascinating stories about the village and the surrounding mountains. It felt like a real cultural exchange.
All in all, how I felt about the journey is a bit complex. Physically, I was exhausted by the end of it. The winding road made me a little motion-sick, and sitting for so long was tough. However, emotionally and mentally, it was incredibly rewarding. The journey itself was part of the adventure. It allowed me to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of city life and connect with nature and simple, kind people. It really made me appreciate the beauty of the journey, not just the destination. So, despite the discomfort, I look back on it as a truly memorable and enriching experience.
Part 3: Two-way Discussion
Why do some people enjoy long journeys while others don't?
I think it comes down to personal disposition and the purpose of the trip. For instance, people who are naturally patient and curious might see a long journey as an opportunity for discovery and relaxation. They enjoy the process of getting from A to B. On the other hand, those who are goal-oriented or have a busy schedule might view it as a waste of time, simply an obstacle to overcome. Also, the mode of transport plays a huge role. A luxurious train journey can be a pleasure, whereas a cramped economy flight is often just a means to an end.
Do you think technology has changed the experience of long journeys?
Absolutely, technology has revolutionized long journeys. In the past, people had to rely on books and scenery to pass the time, which could be limiting. Now, with smartphones, tablets, and in-flight entertainment, we can watch movies, play games, or work online, making the journey much more bearable and productive. However, there's a downside. Some argue that this constant connectivity and entertainment prevent us from truly experiencing the journey. We're so absorbed in our screens that we miss out on observing the world around us or having spontaneous interactions with fellow travelers. So, while technology makes journeys
